NDE Virtual Event: 'Using Math Models in K-8'

How pictorial models provide consistent gateways to conceptual understanding across grade bands

Supports implementation of the Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics and addresses all Nebraska Mathematical Processes.

A Nebraska Department of Education Virtual Event co-sponsored by Great Minds

We all want our students to understand the WHY behind math. How can we deepen our students’ understanding and lift their reasoning beyond mere algorithms? Too often we jump our students from manipulatives straight to abstract concepts. Instead, this grade band-specific PD will enable you to equitably support your students by nurturing the pictorial stage in the concrete-pictorial-abstract progression of learning. Models are a critical key in unlocking mathematical reasoning, maximizing instructional time, and improving student learning.
