The UNL Department of Mathematics is a national leader with respect to offering opportunities for professional growth for math teachers. For the Spring 2025 semester, the department is offering two online courses that have been designed with teachers and the work they do teaching mathematics in mind. Over the past 15 years, more than 450 math teachers have earned their master’s degree, making UNL a true leader with respect to providing opportunities for mathematics teachers.
The spring semester starts Monday, Jan. 21, 2025, so you must be enrolled in MyRED by Jan. 17 to avoid late fees. If you have taken a course in the past year at UNL and have NOT graduated, use the instructions for how to enroll in MyRED. If it has been more than three semesters since your last course, or you recently graduated, please email Erin Ingram at eingram3@unl.edu for further enrollment instructions.
This spring, the UNL math department is offering two online courses:
- Math 805T, section 700: Discrete Mathematics
- Math 812T, section 700: Geometry for Geometry for Teachers
Math 805T, section 700: Discrete Mathematics
Designed to deepen knowledge of discrete mathematics as it relates to topics covered in middle through high school curricula. Course topics (such as graph theory and counting techniques) are introduced through "hands-on" explorations through which various problem-solving strategies are emphasized.
Math 812T, section 700: Geometry for Geometry for Teachers
Strengthens mathematical background for teaching Geometry by focusing on fundamental concepts of Euclidean geometry and using explorations to contrast them with non-Euclidean geometries (including spherical and hyperbolic geometries). Makes extensive use of simple, concrete materials and dynamic geometry software.
