Budapest Semesters in Mathematics Education (BSME) is a 6-week summer program in Budapest, Hungary, where mathematics educators study the renowned Hungarian pedagogy-an approach that places problem-solving, creativity, and mathematical communication at the center of instruction. This experience is designed for both in-service and pre-service teachers interested in the learning and teaching of secondary mathematics.

Why does Hungarian pedology matter now? The Hungarian pedagogy provides a model for integrating conceptual understanding and productive struggle into daily instruction rather than the occasional emphasis that is seen in American mathematics education. Teachers who complete BSME will return with practical strategies that they can bring back into their classroom and also share with colleagues.

The semester abroad will take place in mid-June through late July (6 weeks) Participants will take a wide variety of mathematics courses alongside Hungarian teacher scholars. Students will also complete a week-long field experience at Hungarian mathematics summer camp for secondary students. Eligible participants will earn 8 graduate credit hours through Texas State University.

Application deadline is April 1, rolling admission. Learn more, see participant testimonials, and applyonline today!
