After the season kicked off at NATM in Kearney, mathematics teachers near Beatrice, Grand Island and Seward were treated to an evening of food and fun while working engaging math problems at Greater Nebraska Math Teachers Circle events.

Beatrice teachers looked at math problems for middle school students over pizza at Valentino’s, while teachers from Seward and surrounding communities learned about integer partitions over a catered dinner. Families and students of Grand Island's Westridge Middle School also gathered to learn about trains and integer partitions.

Math Teachers Circle meetings provide opportunities for mathematicians and teachers to discover and share with students the excitement and richness of problem solving in deep yet accessible mathematical topics.
Upcoming circles are scheduled to convene on Monday (Nov. 17) in Falls City at Falls City High School and spring Circle meetings are expected to take place in Scottsbluff on February 9 and Norfolk on April 7. Watch the website for details.

In Falls City, Jason Vitosh will present “A Three-Act Problem from Dan Meyer”. This presentation will introduce teachers to resources from renowned mathematics educator, Dan Meyer, with a focus on different ways to approach and engage students in problem solving. RSVP to Jason by Friday: jvitosh@fallscityps.org.
