MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge (http://m3challenge.siam.org) is an Internet-based applied math competition for high school juniors and seniors known for inspiring them to pursue STEM majors and careers. Working in teams of three to five, participants solve an open-ended, math-modeling problem focused on a realistic issue – in 14 hours. The contest, organized by Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and sponsored by leading software developer MathWorks, is free and open to all U.S. students and will award top teams this year with $100,000 in scholarships toward the pursuit of higher education. M3 Challenge has given more than $1.3 million in scholarships to date and has been listed as an approved contest by the National Association of Secondary School Principals since 2010.
