Equity and STEM Education Research

This course offering is directed toward K-16 teaching professionals and/or graduate students who are interested in improving their understanding of issues of equity, specifically in STEM education; however the ideas included in the course are widely applicable to other subject areas. We will examine how issues of equity affect teaching and learning in STEM education through close reading of the research and major national reports in this area.

Topics for the course include, but are not limited to:
 Gender
 Socioeconomic status and social class
 Underrepresented groups in STEM education, majors, and careers
 Ethnicity and cultural diversity
 Linguistic diversity
 Special needs and special talents
