Mortar Board is the University of Nebraska's only national senior honor society. Organized in 1905, the Order of the Black Masque chapter recognizes college students for outstanding scholarship, leadership, and service to the University and the community. Membership in Mortar Board is one of the highest honors a college student can earn and we invite you to apply.
While it is an honor to be selected for membership in Mortar Board, it is the continued commitment to serve that differentiates Mortar Board from the other honorary societies. During the past year, Mortar Board has accomplished numerous activities including honoring individuals who have made a difference in our lives through our “People Who Inspire” banquet, recognizing Nebraska’s most outstanding educators through our “Professor of the Month” award program, participating in (and winning!!) the RSO competition during homecoming week, volunteering weekly at Clinton Elementary, and co-sponsoring our annual Jack Frost Jog to support the Team Jack Foundation. As a member of Mortar Board, you will take part in a variety of activities like these with an outstanding group of individuals.
Applications for membership opened today and will remain open until Jan. 18. To be eligible, you must have completed a minimum of 53 credit hours and have above a 3.3 GPA.
Applications to be a Mortar Board notable are also open. Freshmen, sophomores, and seniors with above a 3.3 GPA are eligible to earn a Mortar Board notable scholarship.
