Thinking about taking language courses in college? Consider Latin!

Some people think of Latin as a “dead language” because it is no longer spoken, but the reality is Latin lives on all around us. In religions such as Catholicism, in the naming of organisms and the human body, and in the law with phrases like “Habeas corpus”. Knowing the Latin meaning of medical and legal terms will save you time and help your studies of these fields. Learning Latin will challenge you and strengthen your grammar and critical thinking skills-all without having to speak any Latin.

At UNL we offer Latin 101 every fall semester followed by Latin 102 in the spring. Upper-level Latin courses allow you to read and interpret classical literature and count toward the University’s upper-level credit requirements.
