This fall, the UNL Model UN organization will be representing the country of Greece at the American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago from November 23-26! Throughout the conference, the organization’s members will be working alongside fellow representatives attending from universities around the country to address some of the world's most pressing issues, including the human right to a healthy and sustainable environment, the rights of indigenous peoples, consolidation of peace through practical disarmament measures, and agricultural development. Throughout this semester, we will be working together in preparation for the conference through research, simulations and practice, and education.
Model UN is an academic organization that promotes the education of the United Nations and international issues while fostering cooperation among students. In a fusion of debate and politics, students compete and collaborate with other schools in conferences at the local and national levels to obtain awards and uphold the academic reputation of the university.
However, Model United Nations is more than just a simulation! It is an experiential learning platform that helps you develop critical life skills through public speaking and debate, framing and branding, diplomacy and negotiation, problem solving and policy writing, and critical thinking. Model UN is interdisciplinary by nature as well with students coming from all backgrounds, including political science, pre-law, philosophy, education, engineering, environmental studies, and more!
