According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month and this is an important reminder to let friends, family, colleagues, and communities know there are programs and organizations willing to help if someone is struggling from depression, anxiety, and may be having suicidal thoughts. And please, don't forget to take care of you during these challenging times. Reach out and let's be there for one another.
Chalk Your Walk - September 10.
On September 10, take part in a Chalk Your Walk event. Why September 10? This date is designated as World Suicide Prevention Day. You are invited to grab your sidewalk chalk and head outside to create positive and encouraging art and messages on your walkway and driveway. Take a photo with your creations and post on social media with the hashtag #NENEEDSYOU.
Please help spread the word by sharing the Chalk Your Walk event on your social media. Visit ruralwellness.unl.edu for additional information and resources on stress and wellness.
