The Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS) staff provides services and programs targeted toward student success and cultural development. The OASIS mission is to enhance student success by promoting academic excellence, diversity awareness, and student engagement. OASIS staff works with all UNL undergraduate students, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of students historically underrepresented in higher education. OASIS services include one-on-one assistance, connections to resources, and programs that offer UNL students the tools to successfully navigate the University and the world beyond.

Position Available Spring 2022: Academic Excellence GA
Hours per Week: 19.6 hours per Graduate Studies guidelines
Compensation: Total stipend of $7,500.00 paid out in five monthly equal payments ($1,500.00 per month) beginning Jan. 10, 2022, plus tuition remission and subsidized health insurance (a full ten-month appointment would be $14,300 averaging out $1,430/month)

Academic Excellence GA Duties
Reports to Program Coordinator with Peer Mentor Oversight

  1. Facilitate 11-week seminar class for first-year students
    a. Assist with mentorship and coaching for cohort of OASIS Scholars
  2. Co-advise OASIS Peer Mentors
    a. Provide training/professional development, supervision, and evaluation
  3. Assist with program evaluation and assessment of the OASIS Student Success Program (OSSP)
  4. Develop goals each semester and work with supervisor, OASIS staff, and campus partners to make progress towards goals
  5. Serve as Recovery Guide for Academic Probation Program (if approved by college)
  6. Actively participate in bi-weekly meetings with supervisor
  7. ODI duties as assigned
Duties Assigned to all OASIS and Gaughan Multicultural Center Graduate Assistants:
  1. Serve as a resource for UNL students
  2. Advocate for social justice
  3. Attend OASIS, University, and non-University events, as required
  4. Participate as an active member in OASIS staff meetings
  5. Assist with developing reports
  6. Occasionally provide backup for the Gaughan Multicultural Center Info Desk:
    a. Staff the desk (answer phones, provide directions, etc.)
    b. Lead tours of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center
  7. Work with other campus offices and/or departments/as opportunities arise to help achieve
    the goals and mission of OASIS & Gaughan Multicultural Center
  8. Provide ideas for innovative/new programs.
  9. Represent OASIS and Gaughan Multicultural Center at Essential Husker Experience and
    other Office of Admissions recruitment events
  10. Deliver presentations on behalf of OASIS and Gaughan Multicultural Center
  11. Other duties as assigned (focused on enhancing and improving OASIS and the day-to-day
    operation of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center
