Meet Jules, the Graduate Student Coordinator and Administrative Associate for the Department of Educational Psychology. Jules is passionate about community, art, and sustainability and loves reading, painting, and caring for others.
In addition to their professional role, Jules serves the community in various impactful ways. She initiated the Super Swap project, which aims to enable people to declutter their closets and homes while ensuring their unwanted items reach those needing them. The Super Swap event has significantly impacted by providing essential clothing items to students who may lack access to weather-appropriate attire, particularly international students.
The project is held twice a year, with a "Winter Warmth Edition" in the fall and a "Summer Style Edition" in the spring. During the winter event, cold-weather clothing is prioritized, and the swap has successfully provided some students with their first winter coats. The swap is a resource for those in need and fosters a sense of community and excitement among participants. Students eagerly donate and enjoy searching for new clothes in a lively, supportive environment.
Jules is actively engaged in mask distro and providing mutual aid through both funds and materials. She has an extensive network of people across the country and around the world with whom she stays in touch. Jules collaborates with local groups in Lincoln, such as the Lavender Closet, Lincoln Community Care, and Everett Free Grocery Program, to donate any remaining clothing and home goods items to those in need for free.
When she's not working on community projects, Jules enjoys hand embroidery and reading. She's an enthusiastic coffee lover and has been drinking it since she was four. She is also a fan of breakfast burritos. And if you're ever curious about fun facts, Jules proudly holds the title of the first-ever Miss Hot Dog Nebraska, crowned in July 2024.
Jules's commitment to empowering the community through the Super Swap project has had a significant impact on our graduate community at UNL. Their efforts have fostered inclusivity, support, and sustainability. Jules continues to be a driving force for positive change within the department and beyond.
