History of Trick-or-Treating

The tradition of trick-or-treating in America originates from European customs. People would dress up in costumes and visit homes to ask for food or money, which eventually evolved into the modern "trick-or-treat" tradition. In the past, young women believed they could predict their future husband's name or appearance by performing tricks with yarn, apple parings, or mirrors on Halloween.

In the late 1800s, there was a movement in America to transform Halloween into a holiday focused on community and friendly gatherings rather than on ghosts and pranks.
