The annual Summer Institute for International Teaching Assistants, scheduled for July 23–August 3, 2018, prepares international graduate students for their teaching appointments at UNL. Students participating in the Institute learn in language and teaching classes, and practice developing and teaching their own lessons. Participation is by application only, and departments must submit applications on behalf of eligible students.

UNL has offered the Institute since 1988, and in that time has prepared more than 1,700 international students to teach in the American classroom. Last year, 69 students participated in the Institute, representing 24 nations and 15 academic departments.
