Student health insurance to increase next year

Student health insurance for undergraduate and graduate students will increase for the 2018-2019 school year. Next year’s annual cost of $2,579 per student will be $228 higher than the current rate of $2,351. For graduate students with a qualifying assistantship, the university covers 79% of their insurance premium. Graduate teaching and research assistants will pay only $48 more per year when the increase goes into effect.

“I’m very grateful to everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to keep the costs as low as possible.” said Bill Nunez, Interim Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, “While no increase is welcomed, our student insurance premiums are among the lowest in the Big Ten.”

UnitedHealthcare is the university’s insurance provider. The insurance plan covers medical, mental health, dental and pharmacy services.
