Graduate Assistant, Genoa Indian School Digital Reconciliation Project

Position Description
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work with a team of professionals in digitizing, reformatting, preserving, and transcribing oral histories related to the Genoa Indian School Digital Reconciliation Project.

Responsibilities

  • Convert analog video and audio tapes to digital format suitable for long-term preservation and access.
  • Manage and troubleshoot conversion workflow using video equipment and open source and proprietary software applications.
  • Oversee quality assurance checks of finalized master and derivative digital content.
  • Proactively organize and prepare data files for deposit into the University Libraries preservation repository system, Rosetta.
  • Participate in project meetings and share updates on digitization progress.
  • Generate transcriptions of oral histories.
  • Create descriptive metadata for digital content.

Qualifications
Current graduate or professional student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Applicants should possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Preference given to students with knowledge of Native American languages, history, and culture.

Compensation & Schedule
This paid position offers a flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week during the summer semester for a total of 200 hours at $15.00/hour. Required to work on-site during normal operating hours in the Archives and Special Collections unit. Student will report to the Preservation and Audiovisual Lead in the Genoa Indian School Digital Reconciliation Project.
