Position Description:
The University of Nebraska College of Law is seeking candidates for the position of Graduate Assistant for the Space, Cyber, and Telecommunications Law Program. This position will represent the College of Law at local, regional, and national events, and aids in admission services, student recruitment, student support services, conference planning and promotion, website conference page management, some social media planning, and program development of the SCTL program including managing the day-to-day operation of the department. Approximately one-third of this position's time is dedicated to conference event planning, promotion, and coordination for the SCTL program with additional assistance to the NU Governance and Technology events. Approximately one-third of this position’s time will be spent on student support, including recruitment and mass email campaigns with Law admissions. Finally, this position will support grant and research projects with administrative and developmental support. This position directly reports to Executive Director of Technology and Space Law Initiatives, and supports the program’s faculty Co-Directors.

This position will include at least one trip to Washington DC where the GA will have the opportunity to visit NASA and participate in several major space policy events. There is a possibility for spring semester travel as well.

This is a one-academic-year assistantship, 2019-2020, but has the strong possibility to grow into a full time “Assistant Director” position in summer 2020 for the right candidate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Writing, marketing, editing or copy writing experience
  • Event planning and coordination
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills necessary to successfully interact with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members
  • Ability to work within a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Customer service orientation with timely attention to issues and ability to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Independent judgment and application of established policies and procedures
  • Proficiency with basic computer programs, and HTML and Drupal experience a bonus
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends, travel overnight and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Travel expected 1-2x per year

Compensation:
  • Salary: 15,000 for 10-month appointment (August–May)
  • Tuition Coverage
  • 79% of Student Health Insurance, approx. $2,423
