Healthcare in the United States may be very different from your home country. The University Health Center has many services and helpful staff to make your appointments stress-free. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to use the University Health Center:

Step 1: Complete the International Student Health Requirement

If you have not already, you need to complete the university health requirement. All new international students are required to complete a tuberculosis test at the University Health Center and to show proof of two separate rubeola measles/MMR immunizations or a positive rubeola lab result. More information about the health requirement can be found on our webpage.

Step 2: Making an Appointment

Appointments are required for you to see a doctor. To schedule an appointment, call 402.472.5000. Before you call, make a list of dates and times that you are available for an appointment in the next few days.

If you would like to use a translator, you can ask the medical receptionist about translation services. Translation services are available to use on the phone and at your appointment.

Step 3: Preparing for Your Appointment

Make sure to bring a government ID (like your passport) and your insurance card. You will need to wear a mask when you arrive for check-in. If you forget to bring a mask, one can be provided to you at the check-in desk.

Step 4: Getting to the Health Center

The University Health Center’s address is 550 N 19th Street. We are on City Campus across from University Suites and Willa Cather Dining Complex. There are many ways to get to the health center:

· Walk - The health center is within walking distance of most locations on campus
· Bike – There is a bike rack at one of our building’s entrances. A BikeLNK dock is also located on N 19th St across from our west entrance
· Bus - The UNL / StarTran bus route #25 has a stop immediately south of the building
· Drive – Free parking is available in our patient parking lot. Please use the stalls directly against the building that are marked with a "Patient Parking Only" sign

Step 5: Paying for Services

If you are enrolled in the university’s student insurance plan, you can save money by using your plan at the University Health Center. You can use your benefits at our pharmacy and dental clinic. The student insurance plan covers 100% of the cost of most medically necessary services at the University Health Center. This includes:

· University pre-enrollment health requirement immunizations and tests
· Medical procedures and annual exams
· Laboratory tests, X-rays and more

The health center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you need health care, we are here to help. Call 402.472.5000 to schedule an appointment or visit our website to learn more about services.
