Outreach Internship - AARP Nebraska (Lincoln, NE)

An exciting opportunity to see the real world of advocating for change, making an impact in the community, empowering volunteers to be leaders and working collectively as a team. The intern will work closely with AARP Nebraska staff to implement state plan activities for community outreach, volunteer engagement, state and federal legislative issues, community awareness and fraud prevention.

Key responsibilities of the student intern include:
> Assist with organizing, promoting and staffing community outreach and advocacy events as well as coordinating speaking engagements for AARP fraud prevention and Prepare to Care volunteers.
> Develop in-depth knowledge and compile information on AARP priority issues.
> Provide assistance in coordinating and scheduling training opportunities for volunteers.
> Provide support to Nebraska Caregiving Coalition by taking minutes and arranging events as needed.
> Work closely with AARP staff and volunteers in preparing bags and packets of information for events.
> Assist with state office communications via social media and the web.
> Help arrange and staff community events.
> Other duties as assigned in supporting activities for community presence, regional AARP volunteer teams and other volunteer efforts.

Qualifications required:
> Currently enrolled as a student working on an undergraduate degree in social work, gerontology, liberal arts, journalism, communications or political science. Will consider all degrees and work related experience.
> Intern I position requires undergraduate studies: junior or senior (2020 – 2021 academic year) with minimum GPA of 3.0.
> Able to work business hours, occasional evenings and weekends, hours will be a minimum of 15 hours/week up to 40 hours/weekly.
> Experience using social media channels like Facebook and Twitter.
> Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online search tools.
> Able to commit to AARP Nebraska for an internship beginning June 1 - December 18, 2020.
