We know that many students rely on the summer to engage in opportunities that enhance their resumes and portfolios. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many summer internships and jobs have been cancelled or delayed.
This summer the College of Journalism and Mass Communications will offer students additional opportunities beyond the typical summer classes to help students keep their careers on track. Summer opportunities will include two paid internships, three pop-up courses and seven skills-focused classes.
Internships:
Qualified students can apply for paid summer internships with the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Nebraska News Service:
The Nebraska News Service is accepting applications for reporters, feature writers, editors, videographers, photographers, producers or data journalists to work in one of three News Service Divisions. The Nebraska News Service will focus on providing local and in-depth coverage of COVID-19 on communities throughout Nebraska. UNLimited Sports will examine the changing face of sports, how it's played, how it's viewed and how it impacts society in Nebraska. The Roper Lab will use data journalism skills and techniques to enhance local coverage across Nebraska's 93 counties.
Health Comm Research Project:
The Health Communication Research Project is accepting applications for summer research interns. The project will examine health (mis)information and communication on social media. Students who are interested in analyzing social media data, honing their research skills, becoming social media strategists, pursuing graduate school, or looking to be involved in research activities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Interns will work between 10 and 20 hours per week depending upon their availability and organizational needs. All work during the summer will be remote. Applicants must have access to a laptop and internet. Learn more about these opportunities and apply at https://journalism.unl.edu/summer-2020.
*Applications are due by May 20, 2020.
