Search for Common Ground is seeking a talented Communications Intern for Fall 2012, to be based in Washington, D.C. We require a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. The preferred timeline will be August-December but start and end dates are flexible.
Intern will work closely with the Social Media Manager, and will primarily focus on researching, interviewing, and writing impact stories from countries where SFCG works. This internship offers the opportunity to enhance your writing portfolio, develop research and interviewing skills, and includes the opportunity to hone intercultural communications skills. This is an opportunity to help us tell our story through our newsletters, blog posts, and social media.
Interns are encouraged to attend workshops, lectures, and other events in the area that are relevant to SFCG’s work. SFCG is unable to offer financial support for interns; however, interns may receive academic credit for their internship with the cooperation of their university.
experience:
Excellent writing and editing skills
Demonstrated interest in international relations, social change, peace, and/or journalism
Strong computer literacy and previous experience with new media (social networking, blogging, etc.)
Familiarity with new media concepts, e.g. two-way engagement
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and creative
Able to work independently and as a team member
French and/or Arabic language proficiency preferred
Experience conducting and transcribing interviews preferred
