Description: KPCC.org, the award-winning website for the Southern California Public Radio, is offering an opportunity for a paid production and engagement intern to get hands-on experience working in a newsroom.

Work and learn side-by-side with our editors and producers. We need dynamic interns who want to learn to help engage audiences, make interactive web-first posts and copy edit stories. You'll help the team is day-to-day production duties, but also learn how we pull of large-scale projects and be a part of the team that makes them happen.

- Help update our web site with the latest information
- work with reporters and editors to maintain and update stories as needed
- Assist Web Editors and Digital staff with production tasks including aggregating, updating and producing our newsletter, copy-editing stories and other duties.
- assist with keeping Twitter & Facebook (our main routes of community engagement) updated & interacting with our fans & followers.
- Help with other community engagement tasks, which include online & in-person engagement.
- Help us come up with great projects & new ways to interact with the people who interact with us on a daily basis.

Our Production and Engagement internship is a 6-month-long paid internship, averaging 20 hours per week, including some nights and weekends.

Reqs:
- Knowledge and work with social media in the past is required, & we hope you're already active in social media.
- Strong writing, editing, research & communication skills
- Knowledge of digital editing technologies.
- Working knowledge of current affairs
- Ability to manage several different projects at once
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines as assigned.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, & wire services
- Upbeat, constructive, 'can-do' attitude.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Familiarity with the values/sound of public radio.
- Some experience working in a broadcast or newsroom environment.
Experience in a journalism environment

- Willing to think 'outside the box' of conventional journalistic style.
