Social Media & Writing Internship, Office of Research & Economic Development UNL

This paid position is an opportunity for students to develop social media and communications skills that translate to professional environments, especially in higher education, government agencies and nonprofits. Interns will learn how to craft social media messages that promote UNL research, fit the ORED brand and mission.

What you’ll do:
ORED’s Twitter and Facebook accounts reach approximately 2,000 followers that include UNL colleges, departments and researchers; higher education groups; government; and nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations. An intern’s social media duties will include promoting upcoming campus events; tips and resources for UNL faculty, staff and students; and writing news stories related to UNL research. The intern may also assist the team with other communications projects. Interns work at least 10-15 hours weekly, with flexibility to accommodate classes.

Qualifications:
Strong writing and editing skills and working knowledge of Associated Press style are essential. As representatives of the ORED brand, students must demonstrate solid news judgment and sense of professionalism. Juniors, seniors and graduate students studying journalism, public relations or related field are preferred; sophomores with prior experience will be considered.
