USA Today Collegiate Correspondent Program

Are you a news junkie, multimedia mastermind and social media addict? If so, this is the program for you!

USA TODAY College is looking for the best undergraduate student journalists to join the nation’s premier journalism program! We want out-of-the-box thinkers, unconventional storytellers and passionate content creators who will shape the future of the media industry. She/he will have a strong understanding of what the USA TODAY College audience wants — and even the things they don’t know they want!

Each Collegiate Correspondent is responsible for pitching and creating one piece of weekly content for the USA TODAY College website. This can range from light to serious, to breaking news to profiles and more. Correspondents choose the strongest way to tell each story, whether it be a combination of or a focus on elements including text, original photos and photo galleries, video, podcasts, interactives, graphics, etc.

The program is approximately 17 weeks long with participating students reporting remotely from their respective campuses. In addition to running on USA TODAY College, work may appear on USA TODAY and across Gannett’s nationwide network of 93+ media organizations.

These journalists must:

· Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student.
· Have excellent news judgment.
· Be able to write clean, tight copy.
· Have multimedia storytelling skills.
· Be social media savvy.
· Have original ideas and a driven, self-starter approach.
· Be comfortable working on and meeting deadlines.
· Have a finger on the pulse of what matters to Millennials and what’s trending.

These journalists will ideally:

· Have experience working with WordPress.
· Be confident and competent with all aspects of storytelling, including – but not limited to — Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, still photography and recording/editing audio.
· Have headline writing experience.
· Live and die by AP Style.
