Water for Food Institute Internships

The Daugherty Water for Food Institute (WFI) was founded in 2010 to address the global challenge of achieving food security with less pressure on water resources through improved management of water in agricultural and food systems. We are committed to ensuring a water and food secure world without compromising the use of water for other human and environmental needs.

About the Positions:

We are looking for a skilled videographer, photographer and storyteller to shoot, interview, edit and package stories for a conference on water scarcity and human security aspects of the Syrian crisis that will take place in Lincoln on 19-20 April 2016. Duties will include meeting and interviewing conference participants to produce compelling videos. As several of the conference participants are based in Jordan, we anticipate that the intern will travel to Jordan during Winter or Spring Break to interview and document the geographical, political, social and environmental dynamics that shape the Syrian crisis’ relationship to water in Jordan. Working with WFI staff and leadership, the intern will then condense footage into 2-4 minute stories. Finally, the intern will participate actively in the conference by sharing these stories through digital posters, WFI social media and online platforms.

Pay for the position will be $10/hour, with approximately 60-80 hours of time estimated for completion of tasks and can be extended as necessary. The journalism intern will work with Jesse Starita, WFI’s education/outreach specialist, Richael Young and Paul Noel, WFI’s program associates, and with other WFI faculty, staff and interns as needed. In addition, intern expenses for domestic and international travel will be covered. Note: This internship is not for academic credit.

Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills:

• Demonstrated video editing experience, preferably Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro
• Experience recording interviews, B-roll and candid footage with professional DSLR/camcorder equipment
• Knowledge of YouTube, Vimeo and online video sharing platforms
• Willingness to collaborate with WFI staff and leadership to promote the institute’s mission
• Willingness to travel and perform background research as requested
• An interest in humanitarian work and water and environmental issues is helpful but not required
