Cross-Platform Sports Content Gatherer - KMTV (Omaha, NE)

KMTV is looking for a unique person to take on a hybrid role in our sports departments. We want a reporter/journalist who wants to turn unique stories for our digital platforms who has a passion for sports. This position will spend the weekend working with the sports team which could include producing, editing and writing web stories. During the week, we'll send you out to turn digital exclusive sports stories. We are looking for a creative multi-media journalist who wants innovate each and every day.

Past TV sports producing experience preferred, but must be interested in going into the sports scene to turn unique, exclusive multi-media content. This is position will be approximately spending 40% of their time in the sports department and 60% in the field creating exclusive sports content, subject to change as needed

Key Activities:
• Be a lead digital content generator for KMTV digital properties.
• Assist Digital Content Coordinator in executing and improving the KMTV sports digital strategy.
• Produce high-quality work on a regular, consistent basis with attention to accuracy, fairness, balance, and professional delivery; exercising good judgment, ethics, and integrity in compliance with Scripps mission and values.
• Attend cross-platform (TV, radio, digital) editorial meetings to determine coverage plans.
• Work with sports staff to plan, structure, report and write sports and information content for websites and other new media platforms.
• Shoot/edit video, write/edit content to enhance online coverage for all platforms.
• Enhance sports content with outside links, maps, slideshows.
• Follow up on stories, determine interview subjects, conduct interviews, and write and edit copy for digital, social and television platforms; evaluate worthiness of news stories.
• Locate people and uncover reportable information by applying an expertise in online newsgathering with focus on sports content.
• Determine data visualization and other interactive options for big story coverage on TV and digital platforms.
• Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related degree or commensurate experience.
• Minimum of two years of experience in related field.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must have experience with Content Management Systems, HTML/Dreamweaver, ProTools/Logic, Photoshop/Fireworks, CSS and Social Networking.
• Sound editorial judgment.
• Attention to detail and good follow through.
• Proven initiative in developing stories; assertiveness in interviewing.
• Operates with considerable latitude. Independently performs assignments with instruction limited results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions.
• Strong organizational, research, and development skills and abilities.
• Computer literacy required, including ability to operate audio/video recording and editing equipment.
• Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
• Proficient at posting content to various websites.
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
• Working knowledge of multi-media production techniques; knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
• Familiarity with digital audio workstations and digital audio production preferred.
• Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.

Work environment:
• Driving required. Valid driver's license with good driving record, in accordance with station policy and proof of insurability (must carry liability limits of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident/$50,000 property) may be necessary if location requires driving for this position.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
