Will you graduate with a degree in journalism or have you graduated with such a degree within the last 6 months? If so, you may qualify for one of the 5 paid broadcast multimedia reporter/producer internships available at our Company. News Channel Nebraska's 11-week paid internship begins June 3, 2019 where you will work 12 straight days immersing yourself in our 24-hour news business by learning our systems, reporting, producing content, posting content to our digital assets. After immersion, you'll get two days off and then, you'll be assigned to either four 12-hour days or five 10-hour days with multi day breaks in between. You will be paid $10.00/hr and will be eligible for overtime and will get paid overtime. A $200.00/month housing stipend is available with housing options available.
This isn't an internship where you'll be getting full-time, regular employees’ coffee. They pour their own after producing several stories and anchoring their share each day. You won't have time for coffee so pick one up on your way into work. You will be gathering news on the side of the roadway after a collision on busy Nebraska highway, reporting from the scene of a town that was damaged by a tornado or large hail, covering a police investigation following a stabbing or possibly covering a house fire that nearly killed a small family. This is a hard news internship where you'll be expected to do a VO/SOT and a PKG with a stand-up featuring you every time. You'll learn and work hard and will be treated with the respect afforded to reporters who love their craft should you meet the expectations of the job.
News Channel Nebraska (NCN), is an in-state network of 8 television stations operating a 24/7 news channel covering the entire state of Nebraska. The channel also operates four fully equipped production trucks that cover football, basketball, wrestling, college football, soccer and community events across the state. For those non-sports lovers, there's enough anchoring, hard news, weather coverage, community segments, commercial production, video production and live sports production for each of you.
Every year, we wait until after graduation to find the right graduates that are hungry for work in their field and willing to give it their all. After 8 weeks, Mr. Flood will sit down with you and if you like the work and he likes what you've accomplished, you will be offered a job in the form of a 2 year contract for $25,000/year. The job includes 1 week of vacation after 6 months and 2 weeks after a year. Your salary will also increase to $30,000/year after one year. Individual or family health insurance is available (we pay one half and it is available FOMF 60 days after you start), a 401(K) plan, dental, vision, disability and life insurance is also available.
If you determine this is not what you want to do after 8 weeks, simply give us your best for the remainder of the 11-week program and you'll have a real-world resume reel, as much career advice as you want from us and a personal recommendation to help you get to your next stop.
Norfolk, NE is an All-American city. It is very safe, large enough to have all the amenities and easy to navigate. If you're in this 100%, we'll work to help find you appropriate, safe housing.
If you want something like this, apply right now. Send us your resume, a cover letter, and a link to any reels that demonstrate your relevant skills. You'll be interviewed the same day if possible and if there's a belief this is the right opportunity for you, we run a required background check. DWI convictions are tough, but if there's only 1, we will consider you. We broke this exception once for someone who had 2 convictions, and we found one of our very best who is still with us today.
This is a serious commitment. If you have to be in 3 weddings and need a week here or there, don't apply. The value to this paid internship is the immersion and the real-world experience. Although you'd be new to our organization, you'll be performing tasks that are materially necessary for our in-state network to be successful.
