Internal Communications Specialist and Web Content Manager - Omaha Public Schools (Omaha, NE)

This is an administrative support position primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Communications in developing and executing internal communications strategies to help disseminate key messages and information to internal stakeholder audiences. This position also supports online digital footprint support, including Web. The Internal Communications and Web Content Manager will work with district and departmental leadership to develop tailored communication strategies aligned with the district’s new strategic plan and major areas of focus. Will write and edit a wide range of communications for online communication, e-newsletters and other related channels/techniques.

Essential Performance Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):
> Performs substantive research for the development and maintenance of internal communications strategy.
> Lead content strategist, curator and coordinator for internal mass communications infrastructure / Intranet.
> Writes news stories that demonstrates the district's emphasis areas within the strategic plan, as well as other major focus areas for the district.
> Supports District Communications and the district by aligning internal messaging to support external media relations activities including news stories and press releases.
> Designs and develops content for Omaha Public Schools publications and other materials as requested, such as brochures, newspaper advertisements and public service announcements.
> Takes photographs for publications and the Web.
> Provides content and timely updates of information on the various Omaha Public Schools communication platforms, including internal communication tools, Web and social media.
> Represents Omaha Public Schools at a variety of conferences, committee meetings and community activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (includes, but not limited to):
> Bachelor's degree with course work in journalism, education, mass communication, public relations, or related subjects is required.
> Extensive knowledge of web technologies and applications required.
> At least three years experience as a writer, public relations specialist or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
> High level of working knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop.
> Experience in the coordination of content management system design and implementation, graphic design, and prepress production or any experience or education that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
> Thorough knowledge of the principles, concepts, and technologies associated with the Web, and experience in a digital production environment with emphasis on delivery via the Web.
> Ability to effectively communicate with people, both orally and in writing.
> Expertise as a visual designer and experience in the area of digital media development, such as Web design and online video.
