Nebraska will observe Severe Weather Awareness Week from March 23 to 27, 2026. The statewide tornado drill is planned for Wednesday, March 25 at 10:00 AM CDT.
This week serves as a good reminder to think about how we prepare for severe weather. Even though we cannot control the storms that come our way, we can take steps that help keep people safe. A few basics to keep in mind:
• Know the types of weather hazards that can occur in your area.
• Stay informed by checking forecasts from the National Weather Service at https://www.weather.gov/.
• Pay attention to watches, warnings, and advisories.
• Have a safety plan in place ahead of time and practice it.
This is a good time to test weather radios, refresh emergency kits, review communication plans, and make sure sheltering plans are current.
