Thoughts from the Nebraska State Fair…

First, a huge thank you to all who helped design and deliver a really fun Smith-Lever Centennial event on Saturday, August 30 at the Nebraska State Fair. We had a really great crowd, totally engaged with singing ‘Happy Centennial to you’ and hungry for Centennial ice cream.

Second, a shout out to our Unit Leaders and Research & Extension Directors who facilitated a lively NACEB meeting on Saturday, August 30. This group is seeing new potential and they are excited to be engaged.

Third, we unveiled the new Raising Nebraska learning experience on Friday, August 22. People were clamoring to get in as we conducted the opening ceremonies (this was a very good sign) and the crowds were large and steady throughout the Fair. A special thanks to Dave Buchholz, Stu Shepherd and Kathleen Lodl for pulling this off. And, a big shout out to Beth Janning as the Extension Educator in charge of programming in this space.

Fourth, I was so impressed by UNL Extension’s presence at the Nebraska State Fair. Our livestock superintendents and helpers make the shows work extremely well. Our 4-H exhibit hall is a fun and active place with lots of competitions, exhibits and learning experiences created by a wide array of people. Thank you all for making this important event special for our 4-H youth and their families.
