Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards

The Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards met Friday, June 10, at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center. A special thanks goes to Susan Williams and Linda Boeckner. Susan helped NACEB President Todd Gerdes from Hamilton County plan the business meeting, and Linda Boeckner helped with local arrangements. Thanks are also extended to Jeff Bradshaw, Gary Hergert, Alex Pavlista, Dipak Santra, Jim Schild, Gary Stone, and Carlos Urrea for taking time to share some of their work with the NACEB Directors. These presentations/tours were simply excellent and greatly appreciated by the NACEB Directors. In the business meeting, time was spent discussing some restructure of NACEB that might result in using technology (webinars) so that discussions could be more inclusive of Extension Board Presidents/members from all the counties. Linda Butcher of Lancaster County is the incoming President. The next NACEB meeting (maybe January) will be in Lincoln and might include a briefing/luncheon with Unicameral members.

Military Education Grant Briefing

On Tuesday, June 14, UNL Extension hosted a briefing in Omaha for members of the greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce on the military child care training and technical assistance program being led by Kathleen Lodl and Tonia Durden. This project is targeted at helping military children be successful. There were several key stakeholders in attendance including Senator Scott Price from Bellevue; David Brown, Chair of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce; and representatives of our congressional delegation. Dr. Green provided opening remarks. Kathleen provided an excellent project overview that sparked a robust question and answer session; there was a great deal of interest and support. While this project is targeted toward 13 other states, Nebraska will benefit as well, because Extension Educators engaged in this project will be using the same curriculum to educate Nebraska childcare providers. This is another example of UNL Extension taking national leadership and creating positive outcomes for our clientele.
