Box Statewide Implementation

As you know, Box was installed and configured statewide last year. District technology staff worked with counties and district offices to ensure the technology was accessible and configured appropriately. Recently, they reported several observations and experiences:

• Setting up Box Sync was easy and self-explanatory; if it is in the box sync folder it is going to get synced.
• Box is leading to the elimination of file servers in various county offices.
• Box ensures files are being backed up; additional storage is allocated as needed.
• Many users have moved their primary files to Box, which allows them to access files from their mobile devices, home computers and/or any computer via the web.
• Most users use Box Sync to access their files instead of using a browser to open files and edit them. Mobile devices are typically used to view files, not edit them.
• File collaboration is easy and the ability to track changes or revisions is useful.
• Sharing a file or a folder is quick.
• Having access to files across multiple platforms is good.

Issues and problems when observed, are being reported to Information Technology Services (ITS) who is responsible for Box support overall at UNL.

While the physical implementation has been completed, many may still need to learn more about using Box and to do so I recommend visiting box.unl.edu, which offers users help resources, training information and related services.

If you have a question about your local Box configuration, please contact your district technology support person.
