Internal funding opportunities through the Research Council and Office of Research

The Office of Research and Economic Development and the UNL Research Council are accepting applications for several internal funding opportunities.

The application deadline for Research Council Grants-In-Aid, Faculty Seed Grants, Interdisciplinary Research Grants, Visiting Scholars and Symposium/Distinguished Lecturers is 5 p.m. October 14. Applications for the Special Opportunity Fund are accepted on a rolling deadline.

Applications for the Arts and Humanities Enhancement Program, Minority Health-Related Research projects, Layman Awards and the New Directions Program are due November 11 by 5 p.m. The application deadline for Strategic Research Cluster grant applications has been changed from a rolling deadline to January 5, 2012.

In 2012, Strategic Research Cluster grant applications also will be reviewed as a formal competition with an application deadline of January 5, 2012. Requests for Strategic Research Cluster Grants also will be considered on a case-by-case basis throughout the year. Contact Noah Clayton (nclayton3@unl.edu, 472-8031) for more information.

New for the 2012 competition is an increased level of support. Awards for Layman Seed grants or Layman New Directions grants will be made up to $10,000 but applicants may include a requested budget for an additional $10,000 (e.g., $20,000 total budget request) if supported by an innovative and well-justified plan of work. Up to 10 awards may be funded at up to $20,000.

Both project applications and routing must be completed in NUgrant before the deadline to be eligible for review.

The application form, which features electronic approval and routing, is accessible through NUgrant (https://nugrant.unl.edu) under the Internal Competitions heading on the main page. A guide for submitting an application is available at the bottom of the NUgrant log-in screen. Paper applications are not accepted.

Descriptions of these awards are available on the Internal Funding Opportunities webpage
