Sierra Covell of Denton is receiving the Lancaster County 4‑H June “Heart of 4‑H Award” in recognition of outstanding volunteer service. For over five years, she has helped Lancaster County 4‑H Horse Judging teams prepare for national competitions by hosting the team at her farm to study Clydesdales. Sierra works closely with team coach Roger Bell. She also has done farm tours for the Wranglers 4‑H Club in Saline County and the 4‑H Partners youth mentor program in Seward County.
Sierra says, “Most of the kids that come to visit our farm have never been exposed to draft horses and especially Clydesdales. It’s always fun to show them the size and explain the desired conformation differences from the light horses they are used to. Helping to educate kids and grow their love for horses and agriculture is very important to me.”
