Brett Jurgens is receiving Lancaster County 4‑H’s December “Heart of 4‑H Award” in recognition of outstanding volunteer service. At a young age, he helped his mother teach photography workshops, and at age 14, became a counselor at the Eastern Nebraska 4‑H Center. For over 20 years, he has judged 4‑H photography at the Lancaster County Super Fair, as well as other county fairs. He has also presented several photography workshops and help sessions. In 2023, he became a superintendent of 4‑H Photography at the Lancaster County Super Fair.
“I love the friendships made in 4‑H,” Brett said. “My best friend lives in another state. If we had not worked together at the Eastern Nebraska 4‑H Center, we would never have met. I think 4‑H really teaches compassion for others and great work ethic. Whether at a 4‑H event or other volunteer events, I look to other 4‑H volunteers because they know how to work hard.”
