Schmid Library Presents: STIR Talk by Brian Lepard
Professor Lepard will examine the history of military intervention to protect human rights victims, drawing on the case studies in his book, "Rethinking Humanitarian Intervention." In light of this history, he will review arguments for and against the legality under international law of unilateral air strikes by the U.S. against Syria in response to its recent use of chemical weapons against its own civilian population.
1L's take note: STIR Talks are presentations of twenty minutes or less by your faculty on a topic of special interest to them. The talks are presented in the Student Lounge with refreshments in an informal setting. "STIR" stands for Share, Think, Inspire, Relax. It's a great way for you to get to know your faculty.
Please join us at 4:00PM on Thursday, September 19 in the Student Lounge!
Mini Golf in the Library!
Yes, the coming of fall means that it's time to break out the putters and tackle a round of mini golf in the extraordinary adventure of the Schmid Law Library Mini Golf Links. Please forgive us Thursday as we set up the course, but we're confident that you'll again find it challenging and fun. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to bring friends and family to join in the fun. The course will be ready for tee-offs at 8:00AM and will be open until 3:00PM. We'll have clues for check out, but if you have a favorite putter, feel free to use it.
Best of luck to all you duffers out there! Fore!
Careful With Personal Items
It's easy to feel relaxed and comfortable in the library. (We work hard to make it feel that way!) But please don't forget to use common sense when you get up from your carrel or table and either take your valuables with you or have someone nearby watch them for you. We are a public library so we can't vouch for everyone who's in the library at all times. So guard your personal items and if you see someone in the library who looks suspicious, the circulation desk attendant will call the Campus Police and ask them to do a "walk around."
Tip of the Week: "Printing" PDF's to Evernote
When you select "print" for any document or window in any application, you can always select "Save as PDF." (Right?) Well, Evernote has snuck in a clever plugin to the Print menu and there is now a selection "Save PDF to Evernote…." When you select that option, you can save the PDF as a separate note to any Evernote Notebook and add tags! Simple.
Laptop Checkout Program
We hope that you appreciate the library's new laptop checkout program. It's a new service that we're providing to students, so we're anxious for feedback about how you feel it's working. Please let me (Richard Leiter) know (rleiter@unl.edu) if you have comments or suggestions about ways that we might improve the service. We'll also be sending out a survey later in the semester to gather your feedback about how well its working.
