Last week, Sherman S. Welpton, Jr. Professor of Law Rick Duncan spoke at two St. Louis law schools. He presented "The Tea Party's Constitution" at St. Louis University Law School and "Why Justice Scalia is Wrong About the Free Exercise Clause" at Washington University.
The Oct. 3 program concerns recent calls by prominent scholars and commentators to amend the United States Constitution to shrink the size of the national government and increase the scope of state power. In his lecture, Duncan, who has published widely on constitutional law, took the position that perhaps it is time for state legislatures to call a constitutional convention to consider amendments along these lines.
The Oct. 4 program featured Duncan taking the position that the Supreme Court has not given the free exercise of religion the protection to which it is entitled under the First Amendment.
