Spring construction season is almost upon us. Now is a great time to focus your weekly safety meetings on topics relative to work zones. Conveniently, next week, April 11 – 15, is National Work Zone Awareness Week. This is an event that takes many forms across the country in efforts to encourage safe driving through work zones. Getting drivers to pay extra caution when in the vicinity of highway workers is the goal. This year’s theme is “Work Zones are a Sign to Slow Down.” All the big players in our industry are partners in this event, providing various widespread advertising and media campaigns with the hope of improving safety in your work zones throughout the year. Just as important to that effort is our own highway workers always looking out for themselves and others at the jobsite to ensure safety. In addition, design, setup, and operation of efficient and predictable work zones has obvious benefits to both road users and road workers. So please make it a priority next week to review your work zone policies and procedures and make safety the number one priority this construction season. Thank you!
