Hello Math Majors,
Today is the beginning of the 7th week of the semester, and the deadline to switch a course to the Pass/No Pass grading basis is on Friday, October 18. This deadline marks the half-way point of the semester, and I believe most of you have gotten through your first round of midterm exams. Now is great time to reflect on the first half of the Fall 2019 semester. How have things gone? Are there things that you would like to change? If there are changes you wish you could make, what changes can you make for the rest of the semester that would benefit you academically, professional, or personally?
Maybe you have struggled with your study skills or time management, and it shows on your first exam grades. Maybe the balance between your academics, your work schedule, and/or your social life hasn't been the best, and you feel behind in one or more classes. There are Academic Success Workshops available to help with these items, and you have access to Academic Success Coaches in the First-Year Experience and Transition Programs office. If you are not certain what the best resource is, I would be glad to meet with you to discuss your options and the resources that are available.
Maybe one of your classes is much more challenging than you anticipated before the semester started, or the professor's lecture style doesn't fit well with your learning approach. Now is the time to visit your instructor in their office hours if you haven't already done so. From personal experience, teaching a class is very different from teaching someone in a one-on-one setting, and you can learn a lot during an instructor's office hours. There are also many other academic resources available within the College of Arts and Sciences and within the University.
Remember I am here to help you achieve your academic, professional, and personal goals, so please don't hesitate to contact me, to schedule an appointment with me, or to visit me for a walk-in meeting on Wednesdays. Above all, don't freak out, reach out! Help is always available.
