Michigan Program in Survey Methodology

The Michigan Program in Survey Methodology, based in the Survey Research Center of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Their program might be a great fit for graduates with a Math major who are looking for additional graduate training in Survey Methodology.

They offer three different degree and credential options:

Master of Science in Survey Methodology
Doctor of Philosophy in Survey Methodology
Certificate in Survey Methodology

In addition, they are currently working on a Graduate Data Science Certificate program. They offer students a choice of “tracks” or emphases—social science, data science or statistics. Admission requirements vary a bit depending on the track: For the statistical science area of concentration, three courses in calculus, one course in linear algebra, and one statistics course are strongly recommended. For the social and psychological science area of concentration, two quantitative courses, at least one of which must be a statistics course, and at least two undergraduate courses in the social sciences are recommended. For the data science area of concentration, applicants should have some formal training in programming and at least one semester of statistics.

All their students receive a thorough introduction to any array of methods for collecting data and combining data from multiple sources, and they also ground all their students in a framework for the judging of the quality of data.

Application deadline for the Fall 2021 semester is January 1, 2021. For more information, please visit https://psm.isr.umich.edu/.
