Hello Math Majors,
I hope that you have been doing well over the last week. We have less than 3 weeks left before final exam week, so I imagine that you are either closing in on a final round of midterm exams before the final exam or getting to crunch time for a big final project/paper. I know that this can be a stressful time, so remember that I am here to help.
Friday, April 16 is the deadline to withdraw from a full Spring 2021 semester course. I still have meetings and drop-in times available if you want to discuss a potential course withdrawal. There is a lot more than just a final grade that goes into considering a withdrawal, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Priority Registration for the Fall 2021 semester has begun and runs through Tuesday, April 20, and you have a Priority Registration date listed in MyRed that falls some during this period. Now is the time to log into MyRed to check your Priority Registration date, which is your first opportunity to enroll in classes for the Fall 2021 semester. You can use the Enrollment Schedule to build a schedule for the fall semester now, and you can load the classes into your shopping cart now!
Remember your Priority Registration date is set randomly over a time period of three days based on your current academic level as follows:
- Seniors (89 credit hours or more): Can Enroll Freely Now;
- Juniors (53-88 credit hours): Can Enroll Freely Now;
- Sophomores (27-52 credit hours): Now through Thursday, April 15; and
- Freshmen (0-26 credit hours): Friday, April 16 through Tuesday, April 20 (no dates over the weekend).
After your Priority Registration date and time has passed, you will be able to enroll in classes at anytime. On Wednesday, April 21st, anyone will be able to enroll in classes for the Fall 2021 semester. The only thing that prevents you from enrolling in classes for the Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 semester will be a registration hold of some kind. I strongly encourage you to check your ability to enroll in classes based on items listed in your Message Center on MyRed (i.e., Holds).
Another big thing to remember about the Fall 2021 semester is that classes will be returning to a format that more closely matches the time before COVID-19. Here is some information about Fall 2021 courses provided by the University:
• In-Person courses – will take place in a physical classroom or location where the instructor and students interact with each other on scheduled days and times. Students will be expected to attend all of their in-person classes unless they have an approved accommodation or have an instructor-approved absence.
• Online courses – are designed to allow students to move forward independently through learning modules without a traditional classroom experience and provide maximum flexibility for a student’s schedule. Course content is usually fully developed and available before the semester starts, and students follow specific deadlines for engagement and completion of assignments, exams, and projects. Online courses that require testing at the on-campus Digital Learning Commons will resume in the fall and are indicated as a mode of instruction in MyRED.
• Web Conferencing courses - use a web-based video conferencing platform like Zoom where the instructor and students interact with each other on scheduled days and times with a real-time, remote classroom experience, are not expected to be widely available.
Now is the time to schedule a meeting with me to discuss classes for the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters! My calendar will fill up quickly, and my response times to emails will become longer.

Spring 2021 Math Advising
All academic advising for the Spring 2021 season will be completed virtually for now. This means that all advising meetings and interactions will be conducted on Zoom, over the phone, or via email. Doug and Professor Radu are available to meet your academic advising needs, and we look forward to meeting with you and working with you throughout the spring semester. Even though advising will continue to be virtual, we will do everything we can to support you for the spring semester.
Due to social distancing even if Doug and Professor Radu are in their offices, you will need schedule an advising appointment that will be conducted via Zoom, phone, or email or join drop-in advising on Zoom. If an in-person meeting is absolutely required, arrangements will need to be made well in advance so we can accommodate social distancing in the meeting.
Doug’s advising hours will be:
Appointments – 8:30 am to 4:30 pm every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Appointments – 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm every Wednesday and Friday
Drop-In Advising - 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm every Wednesday and Friday
