Students who are considering doctoral programs in applied mathematics, statistics, and related fields are encouraged to attend a virtual workshop to learn more about the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University. The workshop will consist of short research talks from faculty and current graduate students, a Q&A Panel, and a virtual reception with faculty and students.

At the Division of Applied Mathematics, our research has always been inter- and multi-disciplinary. Some of our faculty have degrees outside mathematics, and we interact with many disciplines at Brown and elsewhere, including engineering, computer science, finance and economics, geology, chemistry, biology, physics, cognitive science, neuroscience, and other fields.

Our graduate program provides training and research activities in a broad spectrum of applied mathematics, including ordinary, functional, and partial differential equations, combinatorics, probability, and stochastic systems theory, statistics and machine learning, numerical analysis, and scientific computing, and pattern theory, including computational/mathematical biology and brain science. The breadth provided by these multiple research areas and interdisciplinary opportunities is one of the great strengths of our doctoral program and is further reflected in the courses we offer. Brown offers full financial support for five years, including full summer support and generous health benefits. Students from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
