Where are you from?

I’m from Minneapolis, MN.

What gets you excited about Math?

What gets me most excited about Math is how different subjects build on each other. I find it really exciting to take a class and know that the concepts I’m learning can provide a foundation for another class!

Favorite math class or instructor so far? Why?

My favorite math class I’ve taken has been Math 309: Introduction to Proofs, taught by Alex Zupan. It was a smaller class, and we would do group work together every class which helped me understand the concepts. It also introduced me to a new way of thinking about math and trying to understand the reasoning behind different math topics. Understanding the proofs and reasoning has helped me in all my other math classes.

What are you excited about doing after graduation?

I’m excited to hopefully work as a data scientist after college. I had a data science internship this past summer and really enjoyed getting to apply things I’ve learned at school in my job!

What is a goal you have accomplished as a Husker?

One goal I have accomplished has been doing research during my time at UNL. I had the opportunity to participate in research during my freshman and sophomore year, and working on research projects helped me discover my interests and what I want to do after college.

What do you wish you would have known when you started as a Math Major that you know now?

Coming into college, I was scared of proofs, so I wish I had known how fun proofs could be! Proofs can be difficult at times and sometimes require a long time to think through, but are so helpful for understanding. It’s also a good feeling of accomplishment when I finally figure out a proof I’ve been stuck on!

What do you hope to cross off your “bucket list” in the next few years?

I’ve never traveled outside the country, so it would be fun to get my passport and travel somewhere new in the next few years!
