Applied Analysis REU at West Virginia University
The Applied Analysis Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) is an eight-week residential summer program (June 2 - July 27, 2024) in which undergraduates investigate open research problems in mathematics.
Students participate in an 8-week research program (June 2 - July 27, 2024) funded by the National Science Foundation (award DMS-2349040), where they work closely with faculty advisors. In addition, they attend workshops and get involved in educational activities organized by the WVU Office of Undergraduate Research.
Through weekly interactions, training, and mentoring, participants are expected to:
- complete an independent research project,
- obtain first-hand experience with the rigors of and best practices in mathematical research,
- familiarize themselves with mainstream expectations for graduate school and for pursuing a career in mathematics, and,
- in particular, significantly improve their knowledge of methods and techniques used in applied analysis and partial differential equations (PDEs) theory.
At the end of the 8-week program (June 2 - July 27, 2024), the participants present their results at the university-wide research symposium and write summary reports on their projects.
The program will provide a stipend of $5,600, on-campus housing and meal service, and partial travel support to and from Morgantown, WV.
