McNair Scholars Program seeks applicants for 2019 Cohort

The UNL McNair Scholars Program prepares selected undergraduates for graduate study by providing opportunities to define goals, engage in research, and develop the skills and student/faculty mentor relationships critical to success at the doctoral level.

Established in 1986 by the U.S. Department of Education and named for astronaut and Challenger space shuttle crew member Ronald McNair, the McNair Scholars Program aims to increase numbers of underrepresented students in doctoral programs.

Undergraduate students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply to the UNL McNair Scholars Program:

• Full-time students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln who plan to pursue graduate education, with the ultimate goal of earning a Ph.D. (because of Department of Education guidelines, we can no longer serve students interested in professional programs)
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Freshman, sophomore or junior with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or above, and
• Either a first-generation college student with a maximum income level established by the U.S. Department of Education OR a member of a group underrepresented in graduate education.

The application is available online: http://www.unl.edu/mcnair/applynow. The application deadline is April 1, 2019.
