Advising Updates

Hello Math Majors,

The month of March can be pretty crazy, and I'm not talking about the recent winter weather we have been having. Today is the first day to enroll in classes for the Summer 2019 semester. Summer registration is open, so you can enroll in classes whenever you are ready. For some classes, I would suggest that you enroll as soon as possible. Your shopping cart for the Fall 2019 semester opens today, and Priority Registration for the Fall 2019 semester starts on Monday, March 25. In between these times, we also have Spring Break from Monday, March 18th to Friday, March 22nd. So, the time is now if you have been waiting to look at classes for the Summer 2019 and Fall 2019 semesters. I will have appointments every weekday and extended walk-in hours during Priority Registration (see the schedule below). I will also be available during Spring Break if you are still on campus or in the local area. Please don't hesitate to come see me.

The Office of the University Registrar is rolling out a new "Enrollment Scheduler" today, which you can use for both the Summer 2019 and Fall 2019 semesters (see a separate announcement in this email). This system will allow you to input your classes for the semester, add in your break times (needed and wanted), and determine whether you want to have online classes (or not). Then, it will create potential schedules of courses that you could enroll in. For example, let's say you want to enroll in MATH 208, PHYS 211, PHYS 221, CHEM 113, and ENGL 150, and you want to have break every day for lunch (50 minutes between 11 am and 2 pm). In addition, let's say that you work on Friday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 am and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. The new Enrollment Scheduler will use all of this information to create potential schedules for you. The scheduler can review and create 1000s of potential schedules, so it should make your life easier when it comes to enrolling in classes.

March is also a big month clearing students for May graduation and wrapping up the Academic Probation Recovery Program. If you have been avoiding either of these or putting it off until later, you need to start working on these things now!

Thanks,
Doug
