Volunteers Needed for the Women in Science Conference!
The 21st Annual Women in Science Conference will be held at the Nebraska Union on the UNL city campus in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th. Sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR and the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education, this two-day event brings high school girls from across Nebraska and the Midwest region to campus to explore their interests in science careers. Women in Science is for students who want to interact with career and academic professional women in science, meet current female science students and other high school girls who are interested in science, and discover countless professions as diverse as biologists, geologists, engineers, food scientists, computer scientists, and those in the medical fields.
We need volunteers to help with the Math Department's display on Friday, March 29th from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm in the Nebraska City Campus Union. During that time, volunteers would have the opportunity to meet and interact with conference attendees to discuss your mutual interest in Mathematics! We will have Math-related puzzles, Math major promotional materials and give-a-ways, and a laptop to display Math-related videos. We need 2 to 3 volunteers for the whole time or more volunteers who can be available for part of the time. This will be an excellent opportunity to flex those networking muscles and talk to people who have similar interests as yours. Helping with this event also counts as departmental involvement when completing the Math Department Scholarship Application.
If you are interested, please contact Doug Pellatz at dpellatz@unl.edu. Volunteers will need to review the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Youth Activities Safety Policy and sign it.
