2023 High Plains AMS/NWA Conference - Call for Papers
After a long hiatus, the annual conference of the High Plains Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association is returning! The next annual conference will be held August 2-3, 2023 in North Platte, Nebraska, at the UNL West Central Research and Extension Center.
Registration, hotel and other preliminary information will be posted on the chapter webpage, Annual Conference tab (http://www.highplains-amsnwa.org/aboutHPC.html). Information can also be found on the chapter Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/HighPlainsChapterAMS.NWA/).
Preliminary conference keynote speakers include:
Patrick Burke – Warn On Forecast (WoFS) Program Lead; NSSL
Additional arrangements for keynote speakers are still being made at this time and will be available on the High Plains Chapter webpage when finalized.
Any operational or research meteorology topic relating to High Plains weather is applicable, including winter and severe weather case studies as well as topics involving forecasting, climatology, hydrology, and fire weather, including specific threat messaging to partners and stakeholders. In addition, if you or your office have had experience using WoFS in the warning process and/or as critical information in targeted threat messaging IDSS, we’d be interested in presentations outlining the experiences.
The tone of this conference is less formal than at national conferences, and part of the purpose for this conference is to provide a forum and/or training platform for first time presenters, and for work that has not yet had a chance to go through the academic peer review process.
Titles and one to two paragraph abstracts should include each author's name and affiliation, the corresponding author's complete address, telephone number, and email address. Abstracts must be submitted no later than July 1, 2023 to John Stoppkotte (Science and Operations Officer, NWS North Platte) via email at john.stoppkotte@noaa.gov. All approved submissions will be given the opportunity to present and field questions during an appropriate session at the conference.
For further information concerning conference lodging, facilities, presentation equipment, etc., please see the chapter webpage listed above, or contact Jaclyn Gomez (jaclyn.gomez@noaa.gov) or Bill Taylor (william.taylor@noaa.gov).
