University of Wisconsin-Madison - Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences Professional M.S.
Greetings,
My name is Kaitlyn Heinlein, and I am a Graduate Program Manager with the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
A relatively new addition to our department, the Professional Master’s program is an accelerated, 1-year, 30-credit M.S. program. Instead of completing research and compiling a thesis, students focus on professional development throughout the year along with completing core courses, technical electives, and a pathway specialization. Before their August graduation, students participate in a summer internship/job to gain experience within the field.
Currently, our program offers four specialized pathways:
• Forecasting & Modeling
• Climate Science, Risk Management, & Communication
• Air Quality Science & Regulation
• Satellite Meteorology
More information, including alumni profiles and program curriculum, can be found on our website: https://www.aos.wisc.edu/academics/profms.
Our priority application for Fall 2024 enrollment is due February 1; however, admissions are rolling through late-May for international applicants and into August for domestic applicants.
Please do not hesitate to reach out (email: profms@aos.wisc.edu). I am more than happy to chat via email, phone, or Zoom about the program, the application process, or really anything UW-Madison AOS related!
Best,
Kaitlyn Heinlein
