EAS Trivia Event

Hi all!

We're planning to hold our first EAS Trivia Event on May 1, 2024 at 4:30 pm in Bessey Hall. Please sign up by the end of the day on Monday, April 29th so that we can get an accurate headcount. Undergrads, grad students, and postdocs are eligible to participate. Register at this link: https://forms.gle/CzKga4X2mChgFDiA9.

The Format

The current plan is for a short introductory period followed by two rounds of play. In Round 1, all teams will have a chance to submit a written answer for each question (typical "bar trivia"). The top two teams will compete in Round 2, which will be "quiz bowl" style, with team members buzzing in to answer questions.

The Questions

Faculty are invited to submit questions on any EAS-related topic. No need to adhere to a particular format (multiple choice vs. fill-in-the-blank etc.) but please submit answers along with the questions. Department trivia will be used for tiebreakers. Faculty are welcome to volunteer to read questions and help with scorekeeping.

The Teams

Please register individually. Teams of up to 4 are eligible to participate. Mixed met/clim-geology teams are encouraged. If you have a team ahead of time, please note team members' names on your registration form.

Miscellany

Will there be food? We don't know yet. We may request an additional room and have food, but that's TBD. Please list dietary restrictions just in case.

Restrictions on team composition? Nope, this is the first time we're doing this; maybe we'll enforce some team parameters in a later event, but it will depend on 'lessons learned' from this event.

All participants will be asked to put their cell phone in "phone jail" at the start of the event. Non-Top 2 teams can retrieve their cell phones after the end of Round 1.

It's hard to say how long the event will be, but let's aim for an hour. Probably 20 questions per round.

You can contact me at haacker@unl.edu with any questions.
